Heavy Metal digital subscriptions disappear, reappear

Issue #2 of Heavy Metal Magazine was delayed for digital subscribers in August. Instead of being day-and-date with the paper copy, subscribers were informed (via Circle) on August 4 that Heavy Metal had to “change directions on the digital version” of the magazine, citing October as the target release date (in time for issue #3).

On August 9 a placeholder copy of the magazine was put online for subscribers to read, though this disappeared several days later. Then, on August 22, the online version reappeared. When asked about PDF or other digital formats, Heavy Metal responded, “For security reasons, PDF downloads will not be available at this stage. That said, we will continue working on improvements to the reading experience and the additional[sic] of new features to the platform, including the inclusion of bonus digital content.”

PoserPlay brings 3D render software to browsers

Poser, the 3D rendering software, launched a browser-based version of their software in August. PoserPlay is a free web-based app which allows users to create 3D render art with “a rich catalog of 3D models, including human figures.” Bonware CEO Tim Choate touted, “By lowering the entry barriers, we’re inviting anyone with an interest in digital art to explore our expansive library of 3D models, fostering creativity and supporting them as their skills evolve towards professional-grade artistry.”

PoserPlay is free to use, though premium content is available for purchase as well. You can sign up for a free account and try it out here.
